March
10th - Bill & Phill
of Common Ground
Common Ground was forged with love in the fiery depths
of the Commercial Music Program at Waco’s McLennan Community
College. Phil Wilson (drums) and Steven Rosas (guitar) met in 1990
while attending the program… it was rock at first sight, and
the band was born. The catalyst for Common Ground’s sound
can be attributed to the addition of Bill Hunter on silky lead vocals
& rhythm guitar, and Jimmy K on meat-and-potatoes bass guitar.
Both members also attended the Music Program and the combination
of influences helped give the band’s sound a broader range
of textures without sacrificing the energy and smells their fans
have come to expect. www.texasrockband.com |

April
14th - Marty Floyd
One of the most enjoyable aspects of Marty's performance is his
practice of putting copies of play lists on the tables in the venues
where they perform and inviting the audience members to peruse the
list and submit their requests regarding what songs they would like
to hear. There have been numerous occasions when the audience has
dictated the entire content of the show for three solid hours. Audiences
are also encouraged to play “Stump the Band,” but they
are warned when they do so that the ante goes up in the tip jar!
When people ask Marty what their performances are like, he says,
“Think of it as "The Moody Blues meet the Smothers Brothers.'” |

"The Shane Howard Band has a very unique sound.
The vocals are pure Texas by today's standards. The best part of
the Texas music scene is that it is not defined as country. When

traditional country, but progressive Texas. Definitely a good listen."

and Joel (vocals, guitar) performed together for the first time.
Aimée and Joel have performed together in the band Crosseyed;
Aimée has also performed with the band Fat And Happy.
It is a unique sound that incorporates latin and electronic
percussion as well as acoustic and electric guitars. This music
was created largely in front of audiences, so it is designed to
engage the listener. Hearing these troubadours in concert with their

14 - Laureen Barret
As titled by winning the VO5 “Red Hot Rising Star”
Contest, Lauren Barrett is proving herself an effervescent talent
on the rise! After entering and winning several national contests,
including Clear Channel/Epic Records “Be a Radio Star Contest”
she is now receiving the attention her efforts have earned her.
Influenced by her father’s vocal capabilities and piano playing,
at a young age Lauren was exposed to great sounds. As a pre-teen
she sang with the group “The Prescriptions” in live
venues across greater New Orleans, her beloved hometown. She added
guitar to her running list of talents in high school which has given
her a great foundation for future achievements. Off to the University
of Texas, Lauren began to play three to four nights a week at clubs
in the Austin area. She had quite a following when she graduated
and moved to Los Angeles to pursue her career in 2003.
Whether Ms Barrett is capturing attention through print, film,
or most obviously her musical talent she will be shining bright
in the years to come! |

21 - Kristi Perrira
I've been singing since I was little, and playing guitar since
I was in high school. But it wasn't until just recently I picked
up the guitar again and was reminded of how much I enjoy writing
music. I've been writing more and more over the past 2 years, and
decided to perform at an open mic night in Waco. What you may not
know, is that I also deal with a little case of the stage frights.
The decision to play the open mic night was to overcome that, and
to share some of my songs with people since no one ever gets to
hear them. The performance went well, and afterwards the music manager
approached me to do my own show in September. I was so honored,
and of course, surprised. I never expected it to lead to me having
my own show. So here I am, recording a 5 song demo. and writing
songs like crazy to get ready for the show. Hope you enjoy! |

3 - The Cherry Stompers
When you apply passion to drive you end up with a duo that’s
willing to do what it takes to succeed. The Cherry Stompers live
and breathe this mentality with the added flavor of evolution. They
rise up to every challenge knowing that the next go round will be
even better than the last. The constant growth of this band is what
will keep you listening.
Hitting you hard on the lead acoustic guitar is Mike Jackson. He’s
a veteran of the Texas music scene holding his own with hard core,
punk, Texas rock and anything that’s going to get your blood
pumping. His talents bring an amazing foundation to the sound of
The Cherry Stompers. On rhythm guitar and vocals, Shavonne Velez
is making you stand up and take notice. She’s new to the music
scene, but isn’t at all timid with the mic. She’s bringing
the grace among the grit. With the combination of their talents
they are carving a resonance all their own. |

Sept
28 - Undeserved
I'm a pretty crazy guy so I'm told, but most people seem to be
able to look past that. I love to play guitar and sing. I currently
play acoustic guitar for two churches which include Christian Life
Church here in Waco, and Timbercrest Baptist in Bellmead. I love
to get out and do things whether it be play some basketball, go
to the movies, or grab some ice cream. I'm usually up for most anything.
Anything musically related is usually a pretty good way to reach
me. I really just try and take each moment as it comes. |
